How does voting happen?

The election for Honorary New York City Dog Mayor consists of 16 canine-didates in a March Madness-style bracket. Canine-didates may be any breed of dog and must reside within NYC's 5 boroughs. 

Voting took place every Wednesday from midnight to midnight starting Wednesday, July 24, 2024, through to Monday, November 11, 2024. Voters may reside anywhere and may vote from any of the election's social media platforms— Facebook group polls, our website polls, and formerly our Instagram Stories, which have since been discontinued. 

The winner is crowned Honorary Dog Mayor of NYC, with the runner-up crowned Honorary Deputy Dog Mayor of NYC.

Elections are held every 2 years. The 2nd biannual Honorary Dog Mayor elections commenced on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, with the final two candidates having faced off Monday, November 11. Winning mayoral candidates may only serve 2 terms. Fifteen voting rounds in total will take place from the opening round through to the final.
