How does voting happen?

The election for Honorary New York City Dog Mayor consists of 16 canine-didates in a March Madness-style bracket. Canine-didates may be any breed of dog and must reside within NYC's 5 boroughs.

Voting takes place every Wednesday from midnight to midnight starting Wednesday, July 22, 2026, through to Monday, November 2, 2026. Voters may reside anywhere and may vote from our Facebook group polls and our website polls.

The winner is crowned Honorary Dog Mayor of NYC, with the runner-up crowned Honorary Deputy Dog Mayor of NYC.

When are the elections?

Elections are held every 2 years. The 2nd biannual Honorary Dog Mayor elections commence on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. Winning mayoral candidates may only serve 2 terms. Fifteen voting rounds in total will take place from the opening round through to the final.
